Key rules
- Light rail has the same rights as other vehicles. Never turn in front of an approaching train; check for trains before turning across tracks. (DMV handbook, Light Rail Vehicles)
- Safety zones (marked by raised buttons) are for waiting passengers. Never drive through one or park between it and the curb. (CVC §21709, §22500(c))
- Bus, trolley or streetcar stopped at a safety zone or signal: pass at no more than 10 mph. Streetcar loading with no safety zone: stop behind its door until passengers are safe. (CVC §21756)
