California permit test: freeways
Match the speed of traffic, keep right unless passing, and never stop in the lanes.
Key rules
- Use the on-ramp to reach freeway speed and merge into a gap. Slow down in the exit lane, not on the freeway. (Freeways)
- Missed your exit? Go to the next one; never back up. (CVC §22106)
- Stop on a freeway only for an emergency, a breakdown, or when an officer directs you; get onto the right shoulder and use hazard lights. (CVC §21718)
